I recently enabled the new 2013 mobile client for a couple of customers, through the Lync Server 2013 February update (aka CU1). One of the deployments was a Migration scenario from Lync Server 2010, whereas the other was a “first timer”. A couple of experiences to make notice of:

Lync 2010 Cumulative Update, March 2013 destroys web services URL’s

I just discovered a problem with the latest CU for Lync Server 2010.

Seems like this update ruins the web Components URL’s so that they no longer work. just installed the update in a custommer environment. After the update, online Meetings stopped working. Couldn’t figure out why, so I did som google’ing and quickly discovered other similar problems with previous CU’s(from October 2012).

I proceeded to unistall the update for “Microsoft Lync Server 2010, Web Components Server” and rebooted the FrontEnd server.

The URL’s are working again. Don’t know why this happens, any comments are greatly appreciated 🙂

Integrating Lync 2013 with Lotus Notes clients.

This was supposed to be an article on how to integrate Lync 2013 presence and buddy lists with IBM Lotus Notes Clients.

However, this proved to be a somewhat troublesome process which ended up in a conclusion stating that this is at best a tidious process which involves making changes to excisting mailtemplates in Notes, installing specific DLL’s and Visual C++ Components on local computer in order to make Things work.

All the References regarding this process is mainly focusing on OCS/Lync 2010, and the material is designed for older Versions of Lotus Notes and Domino.

This article describes how things are done http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh527742.aspx#Presence , and according to the author, things should work with Lync 2010(and probably also Lync 2013). Although this mikght be correct, my advice would be the following:

If you do need the coexcistence with Microsoft Lync and IBM Lotus Notes/Domino as a permanent solution, you would have to implement this either using this solution or some other third party utilities(there are several out there, and www.instant-tech.com could be one of them).

If the environment doesn’t depend on the coexcistense(as in my case), it might be best to leave the two systems as separate ones during the transition.
